…lands Best Gospel video award

Goodness and Mercy Ministries’ founder, Prophet Tapiwa Freddy’s music career got a massive boost as he dominated various ZBC stations’ end of year charts.

His Kastep kenyasha was the BEST gospel video on the ZTV Coke Top 50 while sixth overall –it was the only one from the genre in the Top with the next best being Mambo Dhuterere’s collabo with Mathias Mhere, Hey Hey Hey.

This almost guarantees him an award for topping the gospel genre on the popular television chart.

However, his fans were disappointed on the night of the show as the Kastep kenyasha video was not played for unknown reasons.

Away from the television, Prophet Freddy had four songs from his 2019 album, Kastep kenyasha on different radio charts.

On the National FM Top 50, the track Bag was NUMBER ONE while Munyama wegonzo was SECOND on the Coca Cola Top 50.

Kastep Kenyasha was FIRST on the Radio Zimbabwe Gospel charts (Top 50), Munyama Wegonzo was THIRD on the Diamond FM charts while Nezuro haasi nhasi (featuring Mathias Mhere) was 47th on the Star FM charts.

Prophet Freddy told H-Metro he was excited to have achieved so much with just one album when music is not a full-time commitment as his church demands more attention.

“Based on the popularity that my music gained this year I was actually hoping to land the number one position on the radio charts but then there was intense competition from equally deserving songs.

“On the video contest, I am very happy with sixth position given that it is the highest ranked gospel video and the only one in the Top 15. That number six is fair if you look at the quality work put by Winky D on Mugarden and these are people who have been serious in music for so long.

“The Kastep Kenyasha video is sandwiched by Jah Prayzah and Baba Harare, between Sadza Nemuriwo and Ramba wakadzvanya and it’s a great feeling that I am doing something. And it’s even made sweeter by the fact that it’s the only gospel video in Top 10.

“As an artist I am not limited or restricted by being in a certain position at church, I am innovative and people are sometimes surprised by the scenes I feature in or even the dressing. That makes my work a bit different and people should expect more,” said Prophet Freddy.

“I was once featured on charts in 2017 when my song was 27th on the Radio Zimbabwe (Coke) Top 50 but this is unprecedented. The response was so amazing, especially considering that the songs from the one album made it across various radio charts.

“I have since learnt that the music is even more popular across the border in Mozambique. This has really surprised me, especially noting that the popularity is not based on church members but the general public. My music is also different on a song to song basis such that you might think you are listening to a different musician,” he said.

The popularity has forced Prophet Freddy to consider expanding his career as a musician.
