A dress “resembling” the $150,000 (£97,000) outfit worn by Lupita Nyong’o at this year’s Oscars has been found, Los Angeles police say.
Law enforcement were being tipped off by gossip site TMZ, who reported they ended up contacted by a person boasting to be the thief.
He explained he experienced returned the costume following discovering the pearls studding the gown have been pretend.
The tailor made Calvin Klein-intended gown is coated with 6,000 organic pearls, but the purported thief claimed he took two of them for screening and ended up explained to they were not real.
Detectives are performing with the proprietors of the dress to validate if it is the gown.
But Michael White of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Section stated he thought it was. No arrests have been built.
”Whether the jewels on the gown are pretend or real… we still have a burglary and we nevertheless have a grand theft,” Mr White claimed.
Nyong’o won most effective supporting actress in 2014 for twelve Yrs a Slave and was a presenter at Sunday’s ceremony.
